Sometime you just don't know how wise the kids are or how much they really get the world! Marco and I are famous for our 'debates' and it's, in part, part of what makes us "us". Well--the purchase of a new vehicle has been a longer than desired process and really one of the points of 'debate' over the past week. We were talking tonight about what we want and Ian leaned over to Marco and whispered in his ear "just believe MOMMY"!! It was beautiful!! He was so proud of himself and he actually broke Marco's argument. Marco has met his match in his 4 yo son and it's so adorable. The boy has my back for sure!
Ian can be wise beyond his age!!!

Too good not to repost--this one speaks for itself!
Why Having a Toddler is Like Being at a Frat Party
10. There are half-full, brightly-colored plastic cups on the floor in every room. Three are in the bathtub.
9. There's always that one girl, bawling her eyes out in a corner.
8. It's best not to assume that the person closest to you has any control over their digestive function.
7. You sneak off to the bathroom knowing that as soon as you sit down, someone's going to start banging on the door.
6. Probably 80% of the stains on the furniture contain DNA.
5. You've got someone in your face at 3 a.m. looking for a drink.
4. There's definitely going to be a fight.
3. You're not sure whether anything you're doing is right, you just hope it won't get you arrested.
2. There are crumpled-up underpants everywhere.
1. You wake up wondering exactly how and when the person in bed with you got there.

Plain Mommy
I suppose there is "that" moment when every person realizes that they are not as young as they once were and I suppose that there are many key indicators. Maybe it's that you can't lose that 10 pounds left over from winter as easily, you don't recover from last night's wine quite as quickly, you find new aches or pains with each subsequent workout, the songs on the 'oldies' station are what you listened to in high school, you are interacting with kids that have a birth date very close to your graduation date--doesn't matter but there is always that moment. Well mine was today and was handed down from my quite observant little four year old. He has wisdom beyond my comfort level and definitely beyond his age!
So what prompted this new revelation on my current place in the world? Ian and I were driving to his weekly play date with nothing unusual going on when he noticed a smoking little convertible car in the other lane. (We had recently been looking at old family pictures and he had remembered seeing the pictures of Marco and I when we first met and he was driving a sweet little convertible sports car.) So in all his four year old innocence he commented on what he saw:
Ian "Look Mommy that's just like Daddy when he was COOL! and when you were a fancy lady!!" I was laughing so hard at what he had just said, it took me a minute to think of where this was going. I then asked him what daddy and I were now and he replied (maybe just a little too quickly) "Well you are plain now and daddy too!" OK.. so now I am curious what he considers plain so I inquired what it would take for me to regain my 'fancy' status. He told me that "Mommy, you really need to change those clothes." Laughing so hard to myself now, I took some time to digest what he had just told me.
1. He is growing into such a cutie pie and listens to EVERYTHING that he hears. Listens and can use what he hears again in perfect context. Proven again when he said, under his breath, "damn fly" when a bug was sighted in the kitchen after having the door open. I also love that he still has the innocence to say exactly what he is thinking without fear that it's not correct or embarrassing.
2. I am old!! Officially OLD and evidently PLAIN. Things I already knew but hearing this from your kid just cemented it much more firmly than any mirror or photograph ever could! It's just amazing how fast the time flies as we get older and how perspectives start to evolve with a little age. I swear just yesterday I was much more 'with it' and could claim a small amount of style. Where did it go.. (a bit redundant question considering I am the stay at home caregiver of two very rowdy and active little boys)!
Now--the question that I have to ask myself is how can I change this. I am so ready to shed this plain funk that has shadowed me over the past couple of years and find my inner 'fancy lady'!

Superman Cast
Well we have another first here at the house--Ian's first broken bone. Shocked that we let the little man walk around with a broken fibula for almost two weeks. He never stopped so we just thought it was a sprain but unfortunately he has a fracture and needs to wear a cast for three weeks. Still baffled at when it happened--probably during soccer but there wasn't a definite ouch moment! He is tolerating everything great and after the cast comes off he should be 100%! We made sure he has superman blue on the cast and it definitely has hidden repulsor blasters in the bottom. He was so funny with the Dr. and was teaching him the Dutch word for blue. It was priceless!! He is a little mad because it itches and decided that we could cut it off with scissors and then decided we would need daddy's saw to get it off!
Lots of movies and ice cream is in our future!! I don't know how to keep him from jumping or running or out of the water and sand. We'll figure out lots of low impact adventures.
He was so sweet and wanted tons of cuddles this afternoon. He asked me if he could sleep in my bed and of course I said yes. Then he turned to Marco and said that he would need to sleep somewhere else because "Daddy you snore and I need my sleep. I have a long day tomorrow!" I almost fell out of my seat laughing at the little man.
And Luke doesn't let me have a minute either. Just settled Ian into the recliner and went to the bathroom. I came back and Luke had climbed the recliner and was STANDING on the couch next to Ian with Ian holding his waist. Seriously--I don't need two casts at one time. Ohhhhhhh......

Random fun
We had a super week here at the K house! Just so normal and enjoying Marco not traveling for a little. The only snag in the week was we found out why Ian has been limping around -- not a sprain but what I feared, a small fracture in his fibula! We'll see the orthoped. on Monday and will know lots more. Aside from that it was so great.
Luke is well on his way to becoming a water baby just like his big brother. Three days at the pool this week and he is starting to really like the water. He wants to do everything that Ian does some good but most naughty. I think (and fear...) that "I can do anything you can do" is going to be our family motto! Tonight when the three of us were reading stories in Luke's chair, Luke looked over at Ian and just studied what he was doing (sucking his thumb despite our best efforts to stop) and immediately pulled out the passie and stuck his finger in his mouth. Sucking like a crazy man he had a look on his face like "ok.. now what"! It is the most amazing bond those two boys share!
Ian has been super funny--we were driving down the road and a hot little convertible pulled up right next to us. Ian (being a car person just like dad) said "Wow Mommy--is that what daddy had when he was COOL?". I just had to laugh because earlier in the week we were looking at pictures of Marco when he had the little convertible before we were married. So I guess--driving a Jeep or an Infinity Sedan no longer qualifies a Dad to be Cool!! So funny (and sadly maybe true).
And now there are FOUR.. poor little Lukey has all four molars poking through at the same time! Yikes--no wonder he is growling. I also think he has another word--everything is "dis" (this)!! He also squeaked another Ma ma ma today! Yeah!!
Ian started Tball--we just hope he can do it with his leg. He is playing with the John's Creek Braves and has a "real baseball man's" hat just like the Atlanta Braves! Pictures coming soon.
Can't wait for next week.

My Sweet Sweet Boys
It's funny, I don't often write on the blog to the boys but more often write what we do from day to day. Tonight is one of those nights in a million. I just love bedtime from the splashing around in the tubby to story time to cuddles as the night ends. Maybe because I am a night person to the core or maybe it's because I love to quietly ease into sleepy time. Doesn't matter but I really love the special time with the boys. Luke, my little wild man, always growling and yelling at the world, you were so sweet and just enchanting tonight. I loved our tubby time and our first real story time. You loved reading and flipping through the 'Goodnight Moon' book and looking at all the bright colors. I hope I always remember how easy and calm you were tonight! And Ian--we have so much fun together reading, giggling and making up little stories about Daddy (shhh.. I won't tell) as you get ready for sleep. I absolutely adore that you still want Mommy to give you hugs and cuddles--I know the day is coming that you will be way to cool to want me around. Thank you both for giving me these wonderful nights!!
